Staff Profile

As a Senior Community Health Planner for San Mateo County, Brian works on advancing policies that promote healthier, more equitable communities. He brings local government experience in both policy making and implementation.  Prior to joining the Health System, he worked for Los Angeles City Council and more recently, for LA Department of Transportation as the lead transportation planner implementing Los Angeles’ Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic deaths by 2025. As a recent transplant from Los Angeles, he enjoys exploring the Bay Area with his wife and two kids.

My Final Post with Deep Gratitude

Greetings, GHSMC partners! I write my final post with deep gratitude and optimism during one of the more challenging years in recent memory. As I wrap up my transition this month working for the County of San Mateo, I am encouraged by all the great health equity work that I was fortunate to be a part of during my three years with the Health Policy and Planning team.  We were able to advance policy efforts such as Daly City being the first city in the county to adopt a Vision Zero Action Plan to eliminate traffic deaths, which disproportionately affect our most vulnerable communities.

Get Us Moving, San Mateo!

Every Autumn when school is back in session, I find myself reminiscing about my own childhood. My brother and I walked everywhere, then when we were old enough we rode our bikes all over town. We knew our neighbors and I delivered the local paper to my neighbors on my way to school. I grew up in a leafy suburb in Los Angeles, lived ten blocks from school and my parents never worked more than 20 minutes away. This is not a typical experience in present day California.

I’m so excited to be joining the team as its newest Senior Community Health Planner and bringing over six years of experience in transportation politics, policy, and planning. As a recent transplant from Los Angeles, I look forward to working with you and exploring this great county that my family and I now call home.  Prior to joining the Health System, I worked for the city of Los Angeles, where I oversaw the transportation agenda for Los Angeles City Council President Pro Tempore Mitch Englander.
