Healthy Housing

Stable and affordable housing protects health and provides the ability to engage in healthy opportunities.

There are four main policy strategies that can help ensure healthy, safe, and affordable housing for all San Mateo County residents:

  1. PRODUCTION of new housing units at a diversity of affordability levels. 
  2. PRESERVATION of existing affordable housing. 
  3. PROTECTION of existing residents. 
  4. PLACEMENT of housing near transit, jobs and amenities.

A policy is based on and helps implement a general plan’s vision. Programs can be short- or long-term groupings of projects or services that help achieve policy goals.
