South San Francisco Explores Reimagining Single-Family Neighborhoods
As part of their general plan update, the City will be exploring upzoning single-family residences to increase access to opportunity for historically marginalized residents. This is the first City in the Peninsula to explore the topic but it follows the lead of other cities in the region (Berkeley, San Jose, and Sacramento) and the nation (Minneapolis) that have upzoned single-family neighborhoods in order to revert decades of exclusionary zoning practices that have kept lower-income, primarily people of color, from wealthier and healthier neighborhoods.
