SMC Youth Commission Closes a Successful Year!

Post

The end of May marks the end of another SMC Youth Commission cohort. Key achievements of this cohort includes the adoption of a Indigenous People’s Resolution, the recommendation of Social Host Ordinance and the public support for sustainable policies that will help the county cope with climate change.
The SMC Youth Commission was established in 1993 to advise the Board of Supervisors and County departments on issues relevant to the local youth. Every month, twenty-five youth between the ages of 13 and 20 meet to propose ideas, deliberate them, and recommend solutions that address the needs of San Mateo County youth. Recognizing all those who championed, sustained, and continue to make this Youth Commission a reality, the Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution honoring the SMC Youth Commission for its 25th anniversary. Here’s to many more years of local youth voices enriching our democracy!
