Promoting Health and Equity through an Inclusive Recovery
San Mateo County released its Recovery Initiative Implementation Plan on September 18th, consisting of over 100 recommendations identified by local leaders in government, community-based organizations (CBOs), the private sector, and local residents, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Centering an equity-focused framework of inclusive recovery strategies, the plan highlights nine priority areas, including economic development objectives that focus on strengthening local businesses and CBOs, addressing growing unemployment, and preparing the local workforce for anticipated job growth areas. Additional priorities include: reducing the spread of COVID-19, bridging the digital divide, providing safe public and active transportation, meeting the needs of vulnerable populations, promoting mental health and wellness, providing quality, safe, and affordable child care, and supporting distance learning and out-of-school care. Recovery Initiative staff will engage community partners and working groups throughout implementation to ensure a coordinated and sustained path to recovery.
