Making the Case for Safe Routes to Walk and Bike to School

Post

Ten public elementary schools in South San Francisco, Daly City and Redwood City will be hosting traffic safety education and encouragement events this Spring. The schools are Los Cerritos, Spruce, and Martin Elementary in South San Francisco, Bayshore, Westlake, Woodrow Wilson, and Daniel Webster Elementary in Daly City, and Hawes, Hoover, and Taft Elementary in Redwood City.  Additionally, the County Office of Education and Health Planning and Policy are working together to provide education resources for safe walking and biking for older adults at Senior Centers near the schools. The focus senior centers and elementary schools is to better align the needs of vulnerable populations that will make the streets safer for all users. The program is made possible through an Office of Traffic Safety grant that focuses on supporting schools and neighborhoods identified in our 2018 report, Creating Safer Streets Near Schools.  For more information, please contact our Active Transportation lead, Heather Arata at harata@smcgov.org.
