For the first time in its 160-year history, the California State Fair acknowledged the important role farmworkers play in our food system. With the help of the United Farm Workers Union, the Fair’s organizers were able to show the struggles farmworkers have faced advocating for fair pay and safe working conditions. While there is still progress to be made to ensure farmworkers are treated fairly, it is great to see that they are receiving long-overdue recognition.
