Creating a More Healthy, Equitable, and Sustainable Food System

Post

Last month, the San Mateo County Food System Alliance (SMFSA) held a strategic planning retreat, which included representatives from over 10 local organizations representing all aspects of the food system. The SMFSA represents multiple stakeholders of the food system, and yet, there is still much work to be done to ensure equal representation from groups such as farmworkers, food service workers, and food retailers. The group began the conversation around next steps to implement recommendations outlined in the Vision for a San Mateo County Food & Farm Bill. The priority areas that the group will be working on this year include Food Justice, Climate Change, and sustainable funding for food system initiatives. Subcommittees have been formed to work on these priority areas. You can view the Executive Summary of the report here.
