2023-2024 Get Healthy San Mateo County Community Implementation Funding Grantees

Five projects were selected to receive 2023 Get Healthy San Mateo County Community Implementation Funding to help advance healthy, equitable communities across San Mateo County! This year’s funding approach was to fund four priority project areas (Civic Engagement, Community Collaboration for Children’s Success, Restorative Justice Practices in School Settings and Resident Engagement Collaborative Model). Priority Area Grantee/Project
Community Collaboration for Children’s Success (CCCS): Project that addresses inequities highlighted through the CCCS process and furthers strategies identified in the Neighborhood Action Plan for one of the focus communities (Daly City, East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks/Redwood City, South San Francisco). Climate Resilient Communities: Project to expand youth career development opportunities in East Palo Alto, Belle Haven, and North Fair Oaks. Project would include participation in capacity building workshops, attendance at Climate Change Community meetings, and a three-month internship at local environmental organizations.

 

City of Redwood City: Project to pilot an Economic Mobility and Inclusive Engagement Management Fellow to create a city action plan on economic empowerment to expand living wage job opportunities and provide targeted support to increase household income.
Restorative Justice Practices (RJP) in School Settings:  Project to support implementation of restorative justice practices as an alternative to punitive, exclusionary disciple that disproportionately impacts Black/African American, Latinx, Pacific Islander, and Special Education students. Cabrillo Unified School District: Project to expand a successful RJP pilot to the entire Cabrillo Unified School District utilizing a parents, students, staff, and district leaders to design and implement a RJP three-year plan.
Civic Engagement: Project to implement activities (civics education, nonpartisan issue awareness building activities, community power building, and/or leadership development) that fosters leadership in people most affected by health inequities. The proposal also required a plan for voter engagement in the 2024 election. Youth Leadership Institute: Project to train young leaders of color to learn about how boards and commissions influence change, why youth voices and lived experiences are needed in city government, and strategies for applying and securing a position on a board or commission.
Resident Engagement Collaborative Model: Project that aims to achieve an authentic and sustainable structure for multi-organizational community collaboration with Public Health, Policy, and Planning (PHPP). El Concilio: Project to establish a formal structure for community engagement with Public Health, Policy & Planning. This Public Health Community Collaborative serves as a space to facilitate power-sharing, decision-making, and priority setting between community members and Public Health, Policy & Planning.
