A recent study in the American Journal of Public Health details the effects of minimum wage on health outcomes. Researchers show an association between a $1 increase in minimum wage and a 1-2% decrease in low birth weights and a 4% decrease in post neonatal mortality. Looking at minimum wage here in San Mateo County, San Mateo has become the first in the county to get a boost in minimum wage starting next year. The City Council unanimously adopted a local ordinance to raise wages to $15 by 2019 earlier this month.
