The American Heart Association (AHA) has released new guidelines for children and sugar: no more than 6 teaspoons (100 calories) of sugar per day and only one sugary drink per week! The AHA says this will help prevent heart problems such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. A recent study in the American Journal of Public Health found that consumption of sugary drinks in Berkeley decreased 21% and water intake increased after passing a local sugary drink tax.
