Walking and bicycling routes to school become safer
The Cities of East Palo Alto, Redwood City, San Carlos and South San Francisco received $1.8 million in 2011 Caltrans funding for Safe Routes to School projects. More than 40 schools are participating in the San Mateo County Office of Education’s Safe Routes to School efforts. Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital conducted a walkability audit, hosted a bike rodeo and pedestrian workshop at Garfield Elementary and installed a pedestrian scramble at the intersection of Middlefield and Semicircular Road in Redwood City.
