Governor Newsom released a recent Executive Order on Improving Access to Healthy Foods. It provides a clear mandate to improve nutrition for Californians. It also directs CDPH to continue investigating health effects of “ultra processed foods” and food dyes. State departments are tasked to increase access to affordable, healthy foods and improve school meals. The order calls for exploring how Medi-Cal Managed Care plans and hospitals can fund healthy food access.  California is taking important steps towards better health with the new order.
