The mission of the Get Healthy San Mateo County Task Force (Task Force) is to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to develop strategies that will reduce and prevent obesity and other health risks of unhealthy eating and lack of physical activity among all children in San Mateo County.

Funding Opportunities
The Parent Teacher Association will award Healthy Lifestyles Grants of $1000 to PTAs working to engage schools and families to increase activity and access to healthy foods. For more information, visit http://pta.org/pta_healthy

The Congestion Management Agency for San Mateo County (C/CAG) will be distributing $1.4 million for Safe Routes to Schools Programs to enable and encourage children to walk or bike to schools. Projects and activities will improve health and well-being, safety, and also reduce traffic congestion. Information on how to apply for these funds will be forthcoming in Fall 2010.

Sept. 13, 4:30-6 p.m. The next Get Healthy San Mateo County Task Force meeting and launch of the 2010-2015 Strategies for Improving Food and Physical Activity Environments in San Mateo County document. Join us on September 13 at Redwood Shores Library, located at 399 Marine World Pkwy in Redwood City to learn more about the Task Force's commitment to building healthy communities. Supervisor Rose Jacobs-Gibson will be present to launch and introduce the new strategies.
Oct. 12, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Save the date for the second Active Public Spaces Convening, hosted by San Mateo County Supervisor Carole Groom. Join health officials, city staff and elected officials, school leadership and community-based organizations to learn innovative ways of increasing the use of public spaces for social connection and physical activity and to hear about local work in this area. The event will free, with lunch included, and will be held at San Mateo Main Library, located at 55 Third Street in San Mateo. Space is limited.
